Dreams for Trinity
I will pour out my spirit on all; your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old shall dream dreams; and your young shall see visions. Joel 2
The words of the prophet Joel speak to the outpouring of God’s Spirit and the signs that accompany this event. The church celebrates the Spirit on the Day of Pentecost-the fiftieth day of Easter (May 31st this year). The followers of Jesus receive the gift of the Spirit. God’s Spirit empowers the church to go forward into the world in mission and service.
Since we dedicated our building expansion in November of 2007, we have been learning and discerning how Christ’s mission is growing with this additional space for ministry.
I do believe that God’s spirit moves and works among us as Christ’s church. I think now is a good time for us, the people of Trinity, to do some dreaming and to hear one another’s visions and hopes for our congregation. The Church Council concurs.
This summer the Council and others will facilitate conversations around the theme of "Dreams for Trinity". Our desire is to have as many conversations as time and energy will allow these next two months.
The desired outcome "FIVE DREAMS FOR TRINITY" will be shared at our Annual Meeting in January of 2010. Why would we do this? Robert Waterman in his book The Renewal Factor writes: "Dreams, not desperation, move organizations to the highest levels of performance." I agree. And I also believe that God’s Spirit moves among us prompting us to "dream dreams" for a church that continues to grow in mission... that continues to do wonderful things in Christ’s name... that makes us feel proud to be a part of this faith community.
Let’s not leave our dreams for Trinity in a box this summer.
